UP govt outlines plans to create jobs before 2022

NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated various measures to create jobs to address a crisis that has exacerbated amid the Covid-19 pandemic, including ‘Mission Rozgar’, availability of loans for newly set up micro, small and medium enterprises, engaging women’s self-help groups (SHGs) for ration and poshahar (nutritious food) distribution.

Unemployment emerged as a major issue in the recent Bihar assembly polls and it is expected to be a key plank for the opposition in the 2022 UP election as well.

The UP government may soon come out with a booklet containing details of employment and self-employment created in different departments, boards, corporations, councils and other organisations, said people aware of the matter.

On December 7, chief minister Yogi Adityanath handed over appointment letters to 3,209 tube-well operators. The list of newly appointed tube-well operators include 516 women.

The government is also focusing on ensuring the presence of women’s SHGs in all the 826 blocks across the state. “SHGs have a presence in 592 blocks currently. Our plan is to expand them to all 826 blocks by the end of March next year,” said an official in the state livelihood rural mission, who did not wish to be ..
